I met Fra Giuseppe one summer day as he was waiting for a ride on the Salerno Reggio.
He jumped in at the back of the car between my 2 children who had so much fun pulling his beard. In his company the trip flew by, the queues magically dispersed and we arrived together in Palermo.
The life of the renewed Friars Minor is made of prayer and charity. Like Saint Francis, they choose a life of poverty, well immersed in the daily reality of those who live in humble conditions.
The convent of the Friars is an oasis of peace and serenity, this old station with ancient carriages converted into divided rooms, hides in the center of varied and generous vegetation for those who know how to take care of it. Figs, lemons, bananas, pines, rose gardens grow happily, and mix harmoniously. Local cats have found America here.
Years later, I have the experience of sharing a few days in their community in Naples.
Fra Giuseppe travels through prisons and difficult neighborhoods like Scampia, not far from the community.
The young people who live there come to greet him.
